Postpartum depression is an affective mental disorder that affects women once they give birth, causing low mood, sadness, despair, anxiety, insomnia, bad mood, lack of attachment to the baby, guilt, among other symptoms.
Postpartum depression can affect any woman, however there are various factors that can increase the risk of developing it, including:
➤ That you have suffered from depression before in your life.
➤ Who has suffered premenstrual syndrome.
➤ Who has experienced situations of abuse or violence.
➤ Have experienced stressful events during pregnancy.
It is extremely important to note that several changes occur in a woman's body. Once the woman loses the placenta with the highest hormone levels in her life, she drops to almost zero (0) production since breastfeeding will cause a total shutdown of the ovaries for several months, this abrupt change, along with the workload due to having the baby and lack of sleep are factors that can lead a woman to suffer changes in mood until she ends up in postpartum depression. That is why we must monitor mothers and if they suspect this, they should notify their gynecologist immediately.
