Termatalia: Turning water into progress

Gold, silver, oil, even Bitcoin, occupy the highest places in the minds and ideas of those who think about wealth and economic development, while we inhabit a planet in which less than 2.5% of the water is suitable for drinking. human consumption and the development of agricultural and commercial activities that put bread on our tables. But in a region like Latin America where, according to the United Nations Environmental Program, 65% of the world's fresh water is found, such a great and radical change of perspective is necessary and imperative, which is basically about awakening to a new type of awareness of opportunity and progress. Fortunately, important events like TERMATALIA represent that wake-up call that we need so much to rectify and mature, not only as a region and as organized social groups, but as a human species in the genuine need to evolve.

What is THERMALIA?

TERMATALIA is a traveling event that originates in the city of Ourense, in Galicia, Spain, in 1997, at that time promoting the consumption of the thermal centers of that region for the entire Iberian Peninsula. Over the years, it evolved including commercial, academic and cultural characteristics, always around the sustainable exploitation of water in all its forms, both for the development of tourist activity and from the perspective of human health and well-being, incorporating holding the event biennially in Latin America, thus promoting destinations and raising the conversation about thermalism and health tourism throughout the continent.

In this way, every two years an event is held in our region that discovers the thermal water and tourism potential of one of our destinations, while, in the intervening year, TERMATALIA returns to its place of origin, taking place then in Ourense. .

But the TERMATALIA concept goes beyond an important event that addresses an important topic. While the commercial characteristics of the event have reached the presidential spheres of our countries, which was demonstrated with the attendance of Don Luis Lacalle Pou, President of Uruguay, during the TERMATALIA 2023 event in Salto and Paysandú, Eastern Republic of Uruguay, the network of relationships, commerce, trust and, in fact, friendship, which this Galician event represents for those of us who are regular attendees, now becomes a social force in its own right, to the point that all the actors related to these meetings find a leverage and an opportunity for growth in the brand's very existence.

Despite all this, the enthusiasm and the massive participation that TERMATALIA has gained in Latin America, the reality is that the idea is still in the initial areas of a growth graph that shows a very potentially parabolic behavior. This is because its central idea, the use of water for the development of tourism, the health and well-being of our countries, still has a long way to go to the "mainstream" of business opportunities that we all understand and share. . Outside of the clear commercial aspects of thermalism, thalassotherapy and leisure centers around the water of our rivers and our seas, the development of real estate projects, medical tourism, major sporting events, and tourism in general, represent possibilities that They are distributed with a level of randomness and imperfection so complex throughout Latin America that it could only be described as "wonderful." Every country, every region, every small town hides a water secret waiting to be discovered. And yet, the vast majority of these destinations still do not have the slightest idea of the great treasure they hold, and that surpasses in value, scarcity and potential of gold, silver and yes, Bitcoin, not to mention that it also transcends in time to its current possibilities of generating wealth, projecting itself as beacons of humanity's own survival.

In Panama itself we have seen TERMATALIA in the publications of SaludPanama Magazine. The residents of this beautiful country who had the opportunity to visit the TERMATALIA events in Brazil, Uruguay, Argentina, Mexico, and of course in Ourense, share a new awareness about the value of each drop of water that runs through our territories and blesses our fields, and we hope that soon the diligent explorers and discoverers of opportunities of the Panamanian state will be encouraged to connect and learn about the potential of this important initiative that is the most important of its kind in the Western Hemisphere.

When will this event happen again?

This year, TERMATALIA, which defines itself as a "thermal connection bridge between Europe and Latin America" and a "dynamic agent of the health tourism sector worldwide", will take place in Ourense, from September 26 to 28.
