Body Whitening

Today women and men, especially the former, care about showing off smooth, clean, healthy skin free of imperfections. Skin spots are one of these imperfections. These are alterations in the uniformity of color in certain areas of the skin.

The areas most sensitive to spots are the face, chest and arms, because they are the areas of the body with the greatest sun exposure. Stains in the armpits, crotches and intimate area are also common, due to the irritation caused by hair removal.

In this sense, the risk factors are sun exposure, skin phototype (it is more common in dark skin), age (the older you are, the greater the risk), hormonal factors, genetics, taking certain medications, use of of cosmetics or products that may cause skin irritation, among other aspects.

"It is very common to see spots in the armpits and crotches, due to the irritation caused by rubbing and humidity. Skin irritation due to waxing is also very common. Elbows and knees also tend to become pigmented due to rubbing constant," says dermatologist Reynaldo Arosemena.

According to Arosemena, in the case of armpits, crotches and intimate areas, the ideal is to resort to laser hair removal to avoid irritation caused by other hair removal methods, while with respect to knees and elbows, frequent moisturizing is ideal. and the use of sun protection, as well as avoiding rubbing of these areas.

Laser hair removal associated with the use of depigmentation products is a treatment whose duration depends on each person, but on average it is carried out in eight sessions, one per month.

"The results are obtained after two or three sessions and the risks are minimal if laser hair removal is performed by qualified personnel with the appropriate technology and parameters," says the dermatologist.

For knees and elbows, Arosemena recommends the use of depigmenting creams and peels, especially indicated by a specialist. The duration of this treatment is approximately three months, and the results are visible one month after starting the depigmentation treatment.

The risks are hypopigmentation, dyschromia (irregular pigmentation) and skin sensitization; However, these risks are minimized if the treatment is supervised by a skin specialist.

"It should be noted that body whitening is not permanent. If the patient does not take the necessary precautions and does not perform maintenance care, the skin can become stained again," he says.

"The usual thing is that the person undergoes these treatments once a month. However, it must be remembered that these are individualized treatments, because each patient has a particular need and condition," he adds.
