About Dermatology as a Specialty:

La dermatology is a medical specialty that focuses on the study, diagnosis and treatment of conditions of the skin, scalp, hair and nails. Its relevance is undeniable, and here I explain why:

  1. Common and Carry an Economic and Psychological Weight: Skin diseases are common and affect many people. Furthermore, they impose a significant economic and psychological burden on patients. From acne to skin cancer, these conditions can be serious and even deadly.1.
  2. Investment in Dermatological Checkups: Regular visits to the dermatologist are a valuable investment in time and healthcare resources. Early detection of skin problems can prevent complications and improve quality of life.
  3. Variety of Diseases: Dermatologists don't just deal with cosmetic procedures. They also diagnose and treat conditions such as psoriasis, eczema, lupus, acne, skin cancer, and hair and nail disorders.
  4. Signs of Internal Disease: Many internal and infectious diseases manifest themselves on the skin. For example, changes in the nails may indicate arsenic poisoning, and dry, scaly skin may be related to hypothyroidism. Dermatologists can detect these signs and refer patients for appropriate treatment.

In short, dermatology goes beyond the surface of the skin and plays a crucial role in people's overall health and well-being.
